Police suspend the annual Zaar festival in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Zaar Festival initially scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.

A statement from the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, on Thursday revealed that the decision was based on a restraining order issued by a High Court on October 30, 2024.

“Following the directive of the Supreme Court, the Bauchi State Police Command informs the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival scheduled for November 2 has been suspended,” the command said.

SP Wakil noted that previous Zaar Festival events have been marred by conflict, including assaults, property damage and disruptions to law and order.

“As such, festival organizers and participants should not hold any related processions in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas or elsewhere until a final court decision is made,” he added.

SP Wakil further noted that Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Mohammed has announced measures to ensure security and communal harmony across the state.
