A fire at a house in Greenwood leaves three people dead, including one in hospital

GREENWOOD, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) – A midnight fire killed three people and hospitalized one in Greenwood, 1000 block of East Hickory Street, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, police said.

Two Greenwood students, Daniel Isaiah Arrington, 18, and Vivian Medrano, 5, and their mother, Wendy Medrano, 46, died in the fire. according to Greenwood police.

Greenwood Public Schools posted a message on social media saying they have counselors ready to support students on each campus.

“We are heartbroken to share the tragic news early this morning of a house fire in the Greenwood community that took the lives of two beloved Greenwood students,” the post said.

Greenwood police say crews responded to the fire shortly after midnight. They worked all night until morning to extinguish the flames of the engulfed house.

Police say the victims’ bodies have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for identification verification.

The scene is still under investigation. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but police say they will provide updates as they become available.

Greenwood Public Schools will host a community prayer vigil for the victims on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. on the Greenwood High School football field.
