New members of the Juvenile Justice Reform Commission, first meeting announced

Governor Wes Moore on Thursday announced the members of the new Commission on Juvenile Justice Reform and Emerging Best Practices.

The chairman of the new Commission, which meets for the first time next Wednesday, will be Judge Andre M. Davis, who took the plunge in September 2017.

“I am honored to have been asked to lead this important effort,” he said. “We will focus our efforts on improving public safety and the lives of justice-involved youth by advancing proposals that are based on evidence and aligned with prevailing research on adolescent neurodevelopment.”

He will be joined on the Committee by Senators Nick Charles and Will Smith, Representatives Sandy Bartlett and N. Scott Phillips, DJS Secretary Vinny Schiraldi and DHS Secretary Rafael Lopez, among others.

There are 26 members on the committee, including young people involved in the justice system.
