FIRST WARNING | Chris Bailey has showers and gusts for trick-or-treating

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Happy Halloween!! Strong winds are blowing today as we await the arrival of a strong fall cold front. This front will bring rain and some thunderstorms here throughout the day and this will impact trick or treating for much of the area.

Wind is a major player these days, with gusts reaching as high as 60 mph, especially in central and western Kentucky.

Showers and storms will move across western Kentucky this morning into the afternoon and move into central Kentucky during the evening. That will impact trick or treating in these areas. the further east you are in Kentucky, the more likely we are to get through the sweets for hours without rain.

Damaging winds are the greatest threat we face.

Bands of locally heavy rainfall continue to appear on the forecast models, with the potential for around 1″+ amounts for parts of Kentucky.

Lingering showers in eastern and southeastern Kentucky will clear Friday morning with seasonal winds on the first day of November.

Temperatures will rise again over the weekend as we look set to fall back. Standard time returns at 2 a.m. on Sunday, so set your clocks back an hour before going to bed on Saturday evening.

The clocks are falling back, but the thermometers are jumping ahead with highs in the 70s. Those 70s carry us into Monday and Election Day, as strong southwest winds build ahead of our next system. This system will move through here from late Tuesday through Wednesday with showers and a chance of thunder.

This is likely to set in motion a much more active pattern in the first week of November. How this all plays out obviously remains a work in progress.
