Colonie police release ID of bank robbery suspect

Colonie police have released the name of the suspect accused of robbing the Trustco Bank.

Christian M. Aquino, 18, of Saratoga, is accused of walking into the bank at 1 Johnson Road in Latham on Wednesday just after 4 p.m. Wearing a mask, he pointed a gun at the cash register and demanded cash. After receiving the money, he ran away on foot and through a nearby neighborhood, police said.

Witnesses in the area told police where he was. A K-9 named Eddie and investigators from Colonie, Cohoes, Green Island and State Police police searched the area. Aquino was found hiding in a wooded area.

The weapon turned out to be an airsoft pellet gun, police said. He still had the money in his pocket.

No one was injured.

Aquino was charged with robbery, grand larceny and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and booked into the Albany County Jail pending a preliminary hearing.
