Unrivaled announces expansion to 36 players after outperforming financial projections

Unparalleled is already expanding its rosters before the inaugural season of the 3-on-3 women’s basketball league begins.

Co-founder Napheesa Collier announced on social media Thursday that the league will expand from 30 to 36 players, allowing each team to consist of six players.

“We are able to do this because we have exceeded our financial expectations, and so we can now do something that we wanted to do in the future, which is give more people a place in Unrivaled,” Collier said in a social media video. “This is such a great time in women’s sports and we are so grateful to all the positive people who have come out and supported us.”

In recent months, Unrivaled has unveiled a roster full of WNBA talent via social media. Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever was the 30th player announced Thursday, joining the likes of Brittney Griner, Jewell Loyd and Angel Reese.

One player who hasn’t signed yet is Caitlin Clark, although the league is open to the WNBA Rookie of the Year participate.

“We will always have a place for Caitlin Clark,” peerless president Alex Bazzell told Sportico. “We don’t do a full press like people think. We let her relax from basketball. … She knows we have a place for her when she is ready.”

Earlier in October, the competition announced a multi-year partnership with TNT and its sports platforms to show more than 45 matches when the season starts in January. Matchups are shown three nights a week with biweekly matches on TNT on Mondays and Fridays. Matches played on Saturdays will be shown on truTV.

The games start on January 17 and will be played in Miami.

The league also announced the names of the six teams earlier this month: Laces Basketball Club, Mist Basketball Club, Phantom Basketball Club, Lunar Owls Basketball Club, Rose Basketball Club and Vinyl Basketball Club.
