41 passengers were injured when the Hong Kong ferry crashed into the Central waterfront pier

About 40 passengers suffered minor injuries Friday morning when a ferry collided with a pier in Hong Kong’s financial district while docking.

Police said the accident occurred around 7:14 a.m. at Pier 9 in Central, with the boat operating under the Tsui Wah Ferry Service and carrying 130 passengers.

The force said medical assistance was provided to the 41 passengers who suffered minor injuries, adding that investigations were ongoing.

Police said only the ship’s passengers were injured and the boat’s captain was unharmed.

According to local media, the boat usually transports workers to work at the Lamma Power Station and sails between Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Lamma Island.
