New York State suspends Kenneth Chesebro’s law license

An appeals court in New York will rule on Thursday suspended the law license of former President Donald Trump’s ally Kenneth Chesebro after he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia’s far-reaching racketeering case.

Chesebro was indicted alongside Trump last year in Fulton County, along with 17 other co-defendants, in connection with the alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the Peach State. He was indicted on seven counts, but pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to file false documents. He also agreed to testify in the case.

The court found that the Georgia conviction “categorically meets the definition of a serious crime in this state.”

“Having concluded that defendant has been convicted of a serious crime, we accordingly provisionally suspend defendant from practicing law in New York,” the court wrote.

It is not clear how long the suspension will be in effect, but it was “effective immediately.”

Chesebro continues to be licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, California, Texas, Florida and Illinois. according to NBC News.

The New York attorney is just one of several Trump-connected lawyers to have their licenses suspended or expunged over the Georgia case. Jenna Ellis and former Republican New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani have also experienced similar consequences.
