Pedestrian killed in crash on Stony Point Road

Charlottesville, VA – Albemarle County Police and Fire responded to an incident involving a vehicle and pedestrians on Stony Point Road near Riverside Shops Way on Thursday around 7 p.m.

Six pedestrians were trying to cross the road when a southbound sedan struck four people, including a 38-year-old woman and three children, ages 3 years, 1.5 years and 4 months. Two young people were not hit and did not require medical attention. The driver remained at the scene and was uninjured.

All children were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The 38-year-old woman was also treated for serious injuries. Unfortunately, the four-month-old child died on Wednesday from the injuries sustained.

Authorities are looking for witnesses and encourage those with information to contact the ACPD Traffic Unit or Crime Stoppers. The incident is being investigated by the Crash Reconstruction Team.
