Local youth group inspires others through service

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Amarillo has many beautiful parks for people to enjoy, but there is also a group that helps keep the parks beautiful.

It is another project of the Interact Club, consisting of ambitious young people from our region.

“Interact is a club based on Rotary, the adult version of the club. We participate in service projects locally, nationally and internationally to help improve the community at all different levels,” said Terryl Lee, vice president of Interact Club.

The group has been involved in many useful projects recently.

“Just a few weeks ago we went to Cadillac Ranch to paint the Cadillacs red to raise polio awareness, as Rotary has done a lot to eradicate polio,” Lee said.

For Terryl there is an underlying mission.

“I chose to get involved with Interact to help people be in the right place to help improve the community, to use their voice to raise awareness about things and things like that,” said Lee.

The group will settle down at Medi Park on Saturday and you are cordially invited to lend a hand.

“On Saturday we have a cleaning service here at Medi Park from nine to twelve. Everyone is welcome and we are just going to pick up trash and all kinds of rubbish to create a good environment not only for the animals but also for the people so that we can come to a nice clean park,” said Lee.

“What happens when it rains,” Dave asked.

“The rain won’t stop us. We just keep working through it and if it does, it gets too bad, we’ll come out another day and finish the cleanup,” Lee said.

The Interact Club hopes to inspire other young people to get involved in these types of projects and leave a legacy.

“Explain what you want to see for your future and what you want to leave here on this planet for your children and future generations,” Lee said.

Dave loves seeing the city’s youth getting involved to beautify the place and make the city better for everyone. It’s contagious, it’s good news.
