Citing ‘potential threats’, Congress asks police to enhance Sharmila’s security in Andhra

AMARAVATI: Amid a raging tussle over division of assets between YS Sharmila and her elder brother YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, an Andhra Pradesh Congress leader requested the police to extend and improve security of Sharmila, citing to ‘potential threats’ to her safety.

SN Raja, general secretary, in-charge (administration and organization), Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), wrote a letter to DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, requesting extension of ‘Y’ category security and 4+4 security arrangements for Sharmila.

“YS Sharmila Reddy, as a prominent political figure and leader of a major political party in Andhra Pradesh, has been at the forefront of various public movements, rallies and campaigns. Considering the prevailing political environment and potential threats to her security, I kindly request you to consider extending the ‘Y’ category security,” Raja said in the letter he wrote to the DGP recently.

Noting that the APCC president is currently enjoying ‘Y’ category security in Telangana, Raja requested Rao to extend the same for her in Andhra Pradesh, considering the “evolving situation” and increasing public and political activities with which she is involved.

According to Raja, the extension of ‘Y’ category security would “ensure her (Sharmila) protection and safety as she continues her important work.”

Similarly, the Congress leader appealed to the DGP to improve Sharmila’s security arrangement from 2+2 to 4+4, which would provide a more robust level of security and ensure availability of sufficient security personnel to counter potential threats, especially during large public gatherings. and political events.
