Kannur: Former Kannur district president PP Divya, arrested in connection with the suicide of ADM Naveen Babuhas been taken into police custody. The Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court approved the special investigation team’s request, allowing Divya to remain in custody until 5 p.m.

The investigation team initially demanded two days of detention, but the court only approved the detention until Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.

With the custody application approved, Divya’s bail plea will now be taken up at a later date, probably next Monday.

The police registered a case on October 17 on charges of abetment to suicide, based on a complaint by Naveen Babu’s brother K Praveen Babu. Following this, Divya, who had resigned from her post as district panchayat president and gone into hiding, filed an interim bail application, which was dismissed by Judge KT Nisar Ahmed of the Thalassery Sessions Court on Tuesday morning.
