Upon arrival, officers determined that the driver, Matthew J. Bendixen, had lost control of his gray Nissan SUV and crossed into the opposite lane before leaving the road and striking a ditch on the southbound shoulder. After further investigation, authorities discovered that Bendixen was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Bendixen was charged with DWI (first offense), operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, along with other traffic violations. He was processed and released with uniform traffic citations and was scheduled to appear in Conquest Court on October 22 at 6 p.m.
