Mazda EZ-6 launched in China – EV sedan replaces Mazda 6; up to 600 km CLTC EV range; from RM86k

After its debut in Beijing in April this year, the MazdaEZ-6 is now on sale in China. The all-electric sedan is offered with or without a range extender and retails for between 139,800 and 179,800 Yuan (approximately RM86k and RM111k), with seven variants.

Focusing first on the range extender version, the EZ-6, as a pure electric vehicle (EV), features a rear-mounted electric motor with an output of 258 PS (255 hp or 190 kW) and 320 Nm of torque . It is powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) that supports fast charging and can reach 30-80% state of charge (SoC) in 15 minutes.

The LFP battery is available in two energy capacities, with the 56.1 kWh unit offering a range of up to 480 km under China’s generous CLTC standard. There is also a 68.8 kWh option, which increases the range to 600 km.

The range-extender variants, of which four are offered, get a JL473QJ 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine that produces 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and generates electricity for the LFP battery.

Battery capacities are smaller for the REEVs (extended range electric vehicles) at 18.9 and 28.4 kWh, both of which can fast charge in 20 minutes from a 30-80% SoC. The CLTC’s purely electric driving range is 130 and 200 km respectively, but the range extender enables a maximum combined range of up to 1,301 km. Compared to the pure EV variants, the REEV options have a less powerful electric motor in the rear that produces 218 PS (215 PS or 160 kW) and 320 Nm.

In China, the EZ-6 is a much larger vehicle than the Mazda 6 replaces. At 4,921mm long, 1,890mm wide, 1,485mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,895mm, the EZ-6 is a total of 56mm longer than the Mazda 6, while being 50mm wider, 35mm taller and 65mm longer. wheelbase. Both versions of the EZ-6 have the same 479 liter rear boot, but the non-REEV offers a front trunk (frunk) for an additional 99 litres.

Mazda has already confirmed that EZ-6 will be a global modeland after China, the sedan will be launched in European markets. It’s unknown which other regions (including right-hand drive markets) will get the EZ-6, but should it be offered in Malaysia?
