A Buckeye firefighter was shocked by a live wire while extinguishing a fire that started in a port-a-potty and spread to a home Wednesday evening.

The firefighter is in stable condition and was taken to the Valley Wise County Burn Center for treatment, Buckeye Fire Medical Rescue confirmed.

Buckeye Fire and units from the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority worked together to battle the fire.

The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control, but while assessing the structure the firefighter made contact with a live wire and was shocked.

Three family members were driven from the house. The Red Cross helped them secure a new place to stay, the Buckeye Fire Department said.

The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated.
