Brian Sorensen press conference: Everton vs Chelsea preview

Everton boss Brian Sorensen has spoken to the media ahead of Sunday’s Women’s Super League match against Chelsea at Goodison Park (kick-off 18:45 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his press conference:

  • On injuries, Sorensen said: “It wasn’t the best international period for us” and some players need to be assessed.

  • He does not think Clare Wheeler will be available on Sunday due to illness.

  • Asked about Everton’s struggles in front of goal, Sorensen said: “That’s something we have to solve”.

  • He added: “I think we have the players in the squad to do it (score), but the ones we have taken out (injured), there is a big, big quality missing”.

  • The Everton boss hopes his side can get ‘four or six’ points from the upcoming games before the next international window.

  • On Megan Finnigan, Sorensen said she has struggled with injury problems, but added: “She’s a true Blues and Evertonian and she loves the club, and she’s a really good captain.”

  • Chelsea have an “unreal” squad and winning three points against them on Sunday will be “the biggest ask”.

  • Sorensen said: “We have to be at our best, just like at Emirates” when they held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw earlier this season.
