Samantha Bell, who works at nearby Bayden Stud Livery Stables, said: “I heard a skid and then a very loud crash. I rushed to help.

“A young lad passing along Oad Street was hit by a woman who came out of the intersection and turned him around.

“Luckily he didn’t appear to be seriously injured, although both drivers’ airbags went off, but he was very shaken.”

The road, which links Oad Street to the newly upgraded A249 and Stockbury roundaboutopened in June 2023.

Mrs Bell said: “To my knowledge this is the fourth accident at this junction since it was constructed earlier this year as a result of the A249 junction works.”

“The problem is that the speed limit on Oad Street is 60 miles per hour and the intersection is at the top of a hill and on a bend. Moreover, it is very dark there.

“My own daughter had a similar escape when someone pulled out in front of her.

“It’s really hard to see cars coming, especially because they’re coming so fast. The young boy said last night that he had been driving about 50 miles per hour, which is within the speed limit.

“But even that is just too fast at the moment. The speed limit should be lowered.

“It is also a nightmare for us when we go along this road with the horses.

“Kent County Council (KCC) needs to look at this again.”

KCC has been asked for comment.
