Mass shootings in downtown Orlando have left two dead and six injured

Two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting in downtown Orlando, police said.

According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, officers reported shots fired in the area of ​​Central Blvd and Orange Avenue on Friday morning around 1:07 a.m., while a second report of shots followed minutes later in the area of ​​Washington Street and Orange Avenue.

The six injured were transported to area hospitals for “further treatment,” where they are in stable condition, according to Smith.

Smith said that shortly after reports of shots fired, a 17-year-old suspect was located and taken into custody. The teen had previously been arrested for theft in 2023, Smith said.

“This is still an active investigation. As we gather more information, we will provide you with another update,” Smith said at a news conference early Friday morning.
