Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver in a fatal accident

Newport News, VA – Newport News police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal crash on Saturday. Around 6:15 a.m., officers arrived at Harpersville Road and Jefferson Ave., where they found a 74-year-old man, Dennis Gene Clarkson, unconscious in the roadway.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mr Clarkson was cycling when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. Mr Clarkson was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Authorities are seeking information from the driver of a white sedan that was traveling west on Harpersville Road just before the crash. Anyone with information about the vehicle or the incident is encouraged to submit tips anonymously at P3Tips.com or by calling 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Police have released video footage in hopes of identifying the driver involved.
