A year ago, Trinity defeated the Spartans, with a golden goal from Bella Dupes in overtime the difference, avenging a loss to Wyomissing in the 2022 title game. But with new players on both sides, a closer look is needed. Here’s how the matchup plays out, with the game kicking off at Landis Field at 1 p.m.

Wyomissing (16-1-1): Wyomissing returns to the District 3 title game for the fifth year in a row, having won in 2020, 2021 and 2022 before Trinity upset them. The Spartans are led by two-time Berks Player of the Year Sophia Zeppos, an all-rounder who both facilitates and scores. The back end is also predictably elite, and Dulce Lytle has stepped up in the postseason as a strong second option. The program is seeking its fifth district title.

Trinity (15-4): Despite holding the title of reigning district champions, the ‘Rocks had a handful of questions this year. The team had to replace a handful of crucial pieces in defender Grace Notarfrancesco, forwards Frances Maury and Caroline Cunningham and goalkeeper Julianna Prokop. While some familiar faces have led the way, such as sophomores Mia Scherr and Dupes and senior Abby Stair, some new contributors, such as goalkeeper Ashley Berkheimer and freshmen Avery Walker and Savannah Ratke, have helped the group return to the championship.

X factor: Trinity has firepower to score. The question will be whether the ‘Rocks can limit the Wyomissing offense’s chances like they did a year ago. Trinity had a good test run against Boiling Springs in the semifinals, as sophomore scorers Mackenzie Seiber and the Bubblers were held scoreless, but Wyomissing has barely stumbled all year and even tied 4A finalist Northern, so it will be a tough challenge for Terry Mull’s team. group.
