Illegal migrant arrested in New York for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl

New York authorities announced Friday the arrest of an illegal immigrant for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Long Island.

The sexual offense is said to have taken place on October 16 in the village of Westbury. Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department’s Special Victims Squad placed 26-year-old Wilson Castillo Diaz under arrest, and the child was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Diaz is charged with rape, attempted rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Nassau County District Court on October 23.

Diaz illegally entered the U.S. near the Rio Grande Valley in Texas on April 12, 2014, according to Nassau County police. It is not immediately clear which country he came from.

Authorities said Diaz was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol after entering the U.S. but was eventually released. He later failed to show up for an immigration court hearing.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified of the case, Nassau County police said.

Last month, authorities in Upstate New York arrested two illegal Venezuelan migrants in connection with a murder investigation in Connecticut. Moises Alejandro Candollo-Urbaneja, 22, and Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias, 24, were arrested in Rensselaer, New York after allegedly using a credit card belonging to a man killed in an October 14 shooting in Stamford, Connecticut.

Both Candollo-Urbaneja and Galindez-Trias are suspected of having ties to the transnational criminal gang Tren de Aragua.
