Before sunrise, City Hall was lit up in Dodger blue, as it has always been since the team captured the Baseball World Cup with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Yankees on Wednesday night in New York.

“I knew we should have walked sooner,” one woman snorted to her husband as they walked up Temple Avenue to Gloria Molina Grand Park. “Use your core,” she urged.

Fans packed in to stay warm on the cold morning, with folding chairs, bags of food and other items.

Thousands of fans will join Dodgers players, staff and families for Friday’s “Victory Day in LA” celebration. Waves of city workers, transportation workers, firefighters and police officers will also roll along the downtown route, as well as people who usually work downtown as well. Residents were warned to stay out of the area unless they are attending the parade or have to work in the area.

Los Angeles Unified School District schools will remain open Friday and families are urged to plan for expected traffic congestion, according to the mayor’s office.

According to the team, the parking gates at the stadium will open at 8:30 a.m. for the Friday celebration, and the stadium entrance gates will open at 9 a.m. There will be food and merchandise for sale. Entertainment will be provided in the stadium prior to the team’s arrival, including coverage of the parade on DodgerVision video boards.

“All Dodger Stadium guidelines and rules apply to this event, including the reminder not to bring signs, bags or other items not permitted under our policies,” a statement from the team said.

Dodger officials said a portion of proceeds from the stadium event will be donated to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, “which addresses the most pressing issues facing Los Angeles with a mission to bring education, health care, homelessness and social justice to all Angelenos to improve. .”

The celebratory events will be held on the 64th anniversary of the birth of legendary Dodger pitcher Fernando Valenzeula, who passed away on October 22.
