New York Jets compare Garrett Wilson’s acrobatic score to Odell Beckham Jr.

So, wash Jets from New York is Garrett Wilson’s astonishing one-handed touchdown grab really better than former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made many years ago?

That was one of the topics of discussion when the Jets met with the media after their 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday.

Wilson demurred when asked, saying Beckham’s catch was better. But then a reporter reminded him that the Giants had lost that game and he said, “Okay. Agree.”

‘I’m just happy that I could play for my teammates’ Wilson said.

In the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game Wilson made one of the most incredible catches you will ever see. Wilson ran a go route, grabbed the football with his right hand and brought the ball in for what would become the go-ahead touchdown catch.

The reception – which was originally called incomplete but was overturned after it was determined that Wilson had brought his left foot and shin down before his left knee went out of bounds, creating possession as he put his right foot down – immediately drew comparisons to Beckham’s incredible reception against the Dallas Cowboys.

That reception, which took place in 2014, also came in a primetime game at Met Life Stadium and was similar in the way it developed.

So here’s Wilson’s catch:

And here’s Beckham’s catch:

So who did it better? Everyone had an opinion, including Jets defensemen like Sauce Gardner.

“Man, that was a tough match,” Gardner said. “That was good defense. Man, you know it’s not easy, especially when you’re up against someone who can do crazy things like Garrett. You know what I mean? He’s different. That catch is up there with… I’m not going to say it’s better than Odell’s. I really need to reanalyze Odell’s catch, you know what I mean?

Cornerback DJ Reed went there during an interview with SNY while Wilson stood nearby.

“That’s a bad boy,” Reed told him SNY while pointing at Wilson. ‘That’s a bad man. That’s the catch of the year. … That’s better than the Odell catch in real life, I’ve never seen anything like it. To be able to do that on Thursday night football, in prime time, that’s who those guys are.”

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich was working with the referee to get them to overturn the play.

“Oh my god,” Ulbrich said. “I mean, I was talking to the referee when they reviewed it and I thought, ‘Just for posterity’s sake, you have to say this is so, so that it goes down in history.’ I mean, it would match Odell’s (Beckham Jr.) catch. It was awesome.”

Wide receiver Davante Adams — who was evaluated for a concussion while the play was taking place — was ready to get Wilson a new shoe deal.

‘I told him he might get kicked out of Adidas after that’ he said. “That one looked like he went to Jumpman with me, so we’ll see. I’m going to talk to some people about that, but maybe – I’m not going to say they’re going to replace the logo because I know Mike (Michael Jordan) might not like me saying that. But that was a tough catch and I only saw it about three minutes ago.

Wilson recalled seeing the Beckham catch in his family room in Texas when he was a child. He said his father was a Cowboys fan and was unhappy after that catch. He was generally modest after the game, saying he was happy he could do something to help his team win.

Adams, a veteran of such big catches, seemed to understand the moment.

“It’s special to be able to do that in front of 80,000 and maybe millions of people watching at home,” he said.
