RIDOT announces I-95 weekend lane closures for replacement of the Elmwood Avenue Bridge

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced that I-95 will close lanes over the next two weekends to replace the Elmwood Avenue Bridge in Providence.

From Friday evening through Monday morning, the two left lanes on I-95 north, the left lane on I-95 south and Elmwood Avenue at the I-95 overpass will be closed.

From November 8 to 11, the two right lanes on I-95 north and the entrance ramps from Route 10 north and south to I-95 north will be closed.

On November 8, Elmwood Avenue will be closed at the I-95 overpass.

All lanes will commence at 8pm on Friday and open at 5am on Monday.

RIDOT installed a lane split on I-95 north beginning after the Route 10 interchange (Exit 33), with two lanes on both sides of the work zone. The lane split will remain in effect until the work is completed.

RIDOT said drivers should not stop or suddenly change lanes in the lane split as this will cause traffic delays and could lead to an accident.

According to RIDOT, drivers should use alternate routes, such as Route 10 or I-295, and allow extra travel time during each weekend.

The Elmwood Avenue Bridge is the first of 15 bridges being repaired or replaced along I-95 and Route 10 between Providence and Warwick.

This is a fast bridge installation, which will be completely replaced during these two weekends.
