Part of US 60, Loop 202 Red Mountain and Santan closed for construction

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Construction projects will close several major highways, impacting motorists planning to travel to and from the East Valley this weekend.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, a portion of US 60, Loop 202 (Red Mountain and Santan) and I-17 will be closed as crews continue improvement projects.

Closures scheduled for November 1-4:

  • Westbound US 60 closed between Loop 101 Price and I-10 in Tempe from 10pm Friday to 7pm Saturday for signage work.
  • Eastbound US 60 will be closed between I-10 and Mill Avenue in Tempe from 10:00 PM Saturday to 4:00 AM Monday for bridge and signage work.
  • I-17 southbound closed between Peoria and Dunlap Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday due to construction on Valley Metro’s light rail bridge over the highway.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain closed between the I-10/SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange and Priest Drive from 9:00 PM Friday to 3:00 PM Saturday for pavement sealing.
  • Westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain closed between Priest Drive and the I-10/SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange from 9:00 PM Saturday to 3:00 PM Sunday for pavement sealing.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 Santan closed between Loop 101 Price and Alma School Road in Chandler from 12:01 a.m. Sunday to 12 p.m. for a widening project.
  • Westbound I-10 closed two lanes between Fairway Drive and Dysart Road in the West Valley for maintenance on Saturday from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ramps that are disabled:

  • Westbound ramps from US 60 at Country Club Drive, Alma School Road and Dobson Road
  • All I-10 ramps to US 60 eastbound
  • Westbound I-10 ramp at Baseline Road
  • Southbound SR 143 ramp to eastbound I-10
  • I-17 southbound ramps at Greenway, Thunderbird and Cactus Road
  • All I-10 on- and off-ramps at Broadway Road are closed from 8:00 PM Friday to 4:00 AM Monday
  • Southbound Loop 101 ascends to eastbound Loop 202

In addition, westbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes between the Loop 202 Santan and Elliot Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday for pavement marking.

For those looking to head north this weekend to see snow in the High Country, travel north will not be affected by any closures. However, southbound I-17 is narrowed to one lane between Carefree Highway and the Loop 303 primarily at night.

ADOT says you should not use local streets or neighborhoods to get around I-17 construction.

For East Valley drivers needing to get to the airport or downtown Phoenix, ADOT recommends using Loop 101 northbound to Loop 202 Red Mountain westbound. If you need to bypass the eastbound US 60 closure, use Loop 202 Santan in Chandler to northbound Loop 101 Price to hop back on US 60.

Visit ADOT’s website for a complete list of detours and a map of closures.
