Middlefield man arrested for second DUI Halloween night

BOZRAH, Conn. (WFSB) – A man was arrested in Bozrah last night after being reported for speeding and reckless driving.

State police say they received a 911 call at 5:45 p.m. reporting a black Volkswagen Jetta was speeding and passing traffic unsafely on eastbound Route 2.

A state trooper patrolling eastbound Route 2 found the Jetta traveling between 90 and 100 miles per hour.

The driver, 59-year-old Steven Hettrick, of Middlefield, stopped near exit 22 in Bozrah.

When asked why he was speeding, he told state police he was late for a concert.

According to state police, Hettrick failed a field sobriety test and admitted to using both alcohol and cannabis before driving.

He was arrested and charged with illegally operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, his second offense, and reckless driving.

Hettrick was later released on a $3,500 bond.
