The entire street in Sharpness, Gloucs is being auctioned by charity for £1.6 million

A charity has shocked residents with its plans auction closed their street.

Dock Road in Sharpness, Gloucs, will be sold by the Canal and River Trust next week with a guide price of £1.575 million.

But tenants on the street, which has 24 houses, have said they are “shocked and concerned” and fear the buyer could increase their rent.

The single plot is described as a “rare continuous street” by auction house Allsop, which informed residents of the sale in a letter.

There are twelve terraced houses, eight semi-detached and two detached houses. The plot also includes two semi-detached mixed-use buildings, a one-storey workshop, three garages and 1.7 hectares of vacant land.

Amanda Cawston, 54, who has lived in her home with her husband and son for almost three years, said she “can’t imagine rents staying the same”.

She said: “We thought we would stay here forever, but now we don’t know what the future holds.

“We spent a lot of time getting the house to our liking. In the long run we may not be able to afford this house.

“We are not in a position to buy and rental prices are expensivewe really don’t want to leave if we don’t have to.”
