Store clerk caught selling liquor to minors in Redding during a bait-and-switch operation

The Redding Police Department (RPD), in partnership with the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted a Minor Decoy operation Friday to reduce underage drinking in the city.

During the operation, officers visited 23 businesses and a store clerk was found selling alcohol to a minor at Comets Gas Station, located at 1905 Eureka Way.

Store employees who sell alcohol to minors face a minimum fine of $250 and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first offense. In addition, ABC will take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the affected business, which may include a fine, suspension or permanent revocation of the license.

The penalty for providing alcohol to a minor is a fine of at least $1,000 and 24 hours of community service.
