Westbank cyclist killed in collision with truck, LSP says

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WVUE) – A West Bank cyclist was killed Thursday evening (Oct. 31) in a collision with a truck near an intersection south of Marrero, Louisiana State Police said.

The accident happened near the intersection of LA 45 (Barataria Boulevard) and Eighty Arpent Road.

Troopers say the bicyclist was traveling south along the right fog line of Barataria Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Ford F-250 driven by 34-year-old Mark Sicuro.

LSP says Sicuro failed to yield to the cyclist and as he passed, the truck’s tires struck the rider, throwing him from the bike.

The driver was fatally injured and died on the spot. His identity has not been revealed.

Sicuro, who was not injured, was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for negligent homicide, unlawfully passing a cyclist and illegally tinting his windshield.
