Two inmates arrested after altercation at Vernon County Jail

VERNON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – Two inmates are accused of being involved in an altercation at the Vernon County Jail.

According to a press release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, two arrests were made following an altercation that occurred at the Vernon County Jail on the night of October 26, 2024 in the city of Viroqua.

According to the news release, correctional officers responded to a physical assault in one of the jail cells around 8:30 p.m.

Employees provided assistance to the victim. The victim was taken by ambulance to Vernon Memorial Healthcare.

The victim was released from the hospital around midnight and returned to prison.

According to the press release, as a result of the Sheriff’s Office investigation, two convicted inmates, 21-year-old Zachary Blackwood of South Wayne, WI and 28-year-old Demandre Andrew Tyshann Frazier of La Crosse, WI, were both formally arrested on Thursday October 28, 2024.
