Woman tried to smuggle heroin and fentanyl-laced paper into Cook County Jail: Sheriff

A Hills Country Club The woman is accused of smuggling paper laced with heroin and fentanyl into the country Cook County Jail.

On August 29, investigators became aware that 47-year-old Nakeisha Andrews might attempt to take drug-soaked paper during a prison visit. When she arrived, officers conducted a search and found an 8-by-10-inch piece of paper wrapped in plastic hidden in her shirt.

Tests by the Illinois State Police forensic laboratory confirmed the paper was laced with heroin and fentanyl.

Andrews was taken into custody by sheriff’s detectives on October 30. She has been charged with introduction of a controlled substance into a penal institution, a class 1 misdemeanor.

At her initial hearing on October 31, Andrews was released pending trial.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says his office has filed 59 charges this year related to the smuggling or possession of drug-laced paper into the jail.
