St. Mike’s student play about living with a disability ready for premiere

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Sadie Chamberlain has an active imagination and a way with words.

The senior at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester is double majoring in theater and psychology. Chamberlain grew up in Vermont and has been acting since she was five years old. The 22-year-old from Burke has performed in 24 shows. For her senior capstone project, Chamberlain wrote a fantastic play about her life with a disability.

Chamberlain has cerebral palsy, and in A taste of freedom, she sings, dances and performs as the Virgin, one of four characters living in a Celtic landscape.

Eva Sollberger from Seven Days stopped by campus to attend a rehearsal of the show.

“A Taste of Freedom” runs from November 6 to 9 at the McCarthy Arts Center Theater in St. Mike’s, and admission is free.
