Watch as the dog is reunited with his owner after being lost in the wilderness for five months

A dog who survived five months lost in the wilderness of Greenville County, South Carolina, was captured having a very special reunion with her owner in a beautiful video.

Anakin’s Trails stray and pet recovery said in one Facebook post On Sunday, the husky mix, named Oakley, was one of four that was dumped in the woods by a dog trainer around June and has been roaming the wilderness around Greenville County ever since.

After Hurricane Helene, Oakley was not seen for weeks until he was finally spotted on camera again. The rescue then began the process of trapping her.

Rescuers said Oakley was eventually captured by a custom-made food-baited trap, often used to help retrieve skittish and fearful dogs. There is another dog in a similar situation, they said, and the organization is working to capture her as well.

See the lost dog’s sweet reunion with his owner after a five-month gap

A dog owner has an emotional reunion with her husky mix, Oakley, who survived five months lost in the wilderness in Greenville County, South Carolina.

The video of the reunion shows Oakley slowly approaching her owner, seemingly hesitant at first. When Oakley experienced what Anakin’s Trails Stray and Pet Recovery called “lost dog syndrome,” Oakley initially didn’t seem to recognize her family.

But after a few careful sniffs, Oakley’s memory returned. With her tail wagging and her body wiggling, Oakley spends the rest of the clip smothering her people with kisses.

While Oakley’s happy ending has already arrived, the rescue said another Facebook postIt’s that another dumped husky mix, Oakley’s sister Juno, is pregnant and still on the run. According to an update shared Thursday, Juno is about a month pregnant and has about a month left before her puppies arrive. “Our main goal right now is to capture Juno,” the post said.

The other dogs that originally went missing are Oakley’s mother, Nova Jo, who was caught early in the search, and sister Marley, who was caught on Tuesday and later reunited with her family.

The rescue had no additional information about the trainer or further investigation into the incident.
