Nonsokwa’s lawyer Mgbekeonye writes that Imo CP, IG alleges threat to life

The counsel for the embattled Imo radio broadcaster, Chinonso Uba, popularly known as Nonsokwa, has raised the alarm, claiming that some unknown callers called and threatened to kill him if he refused to drop the matter.

The counsel, CK Mgbekeonye, ​​disclosed this in a petition addressed to the Imo State Commissioner of Police and the Inspector General of Police, informing him that his life is in danger as a result of his legal involvement in the case.

The lawyer stated in a petition written through CK Mgbekeonye and Shekinah Chambers that since he represented the broadcaster at an Owerri Magistrate Court on October 23, 2024 over allegations of conspiracy, treason and arson against him by the state police command, he has been receiving calls from strange people.

Mgbekeonye hinted that after he appeared before the accused, he received calls from strange people with hidden phone numbers warning him not to pursue the case or he would have himself to blame.

He further stated in the petition that as if they were not done with the threat, the unknown callers accosted him when he returned from his office along Toronto-MCC Road Owerri on Saturday, October 26 with a black tinted Toyota Hilux glass, which at sensing possible danger For safety, he went to Toronto police headquarters.

“The attackers, having discovered that they had failed to eliminate me, brutally called me again from a still unknown number and threatened to withdraw my legal representation before Uba.

“I am a lawyer who discharges my professional duties within the confines of the law and as such should not be subjected to any form of inhuman treatment or threat to life in the discharge of my professional duty,” Mgbekeonye said.

Uba’s lawyer said that his life and that of his colleagues in the room are in danger after what he has now witnessed within a few days.

“Sir, in view of these foregoing facts as explained, we hereby request your urgent intervention in this complaint before the assailants would succeed in carrying out their threat,” he appealed.
