Jeepney rams tanods while on duty on November 1; 2 dead, 6 injured

BATANGAS CITY – Two barangay tanods or watchmen were killed and six others were injured after a jeepney crashed into them in Barangay Tulo, this city, on Friday afternoon, November 1.

Police identified the fatalities as Jocelyn Claro Macatangay, 49, and Arnold Ebora Calaluan, 49, watchmen of Barangay Tulo.

Injured were colleagues Raul de Castro Soriano, 55; John Rommel A. Dinglasan, 32; Alex Sara Perez, 32; Nelson P. Casao, 49; Nick Ilagan Banaag, 42, and Danilo C. de Castro, 63.

Investigation revealed that the jeepney with license plates DVZ-387 driven by Gado Perez of Lobo, Batangas swerved and hit the victims who were performing All Saints Day service.

The victims were taken to hospitals, where two of them were pronounced dead.

Police said Perez was drunk when the crash occurred.

Perez is facing counts of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and multiple bodily harm.
