Bucyrus man injured in crash Friday evening

REED TOWNSHIP – A Bucyrus man was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Seneca County Friday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post.

Stanlee Howell, of Bucyrus, suffered serious injuries and it is unknown at this time if he was wearing his seat belt, the patrol reported. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital by North Central EMS and later flown from Bellevue to MetroHealth in Cleveland.

Robert Smith of Fostoria was transported to Bellevue Hospital by North Central EMS. He was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

The patrol said it is investigating a serious injury crash between a commercial vehicle and a pickup that occurred Friday at 6:43 p.m. on State Route 4 near State Route 269 in Reed Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevy Silverado driven by Howell was traveling northeast on State Route 4. A 2009 Peterbilt semi driven by Smith was traveling southwest on State Route 4. The patrol reported that Howell was attempting turning left onto State Route 269. and was struck by the Peterbilt semi.

Both vehicles were traveling on the right side of the roadway. The Peterbilt struck a nearby house before finally coming to rest.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Bellevue Fire Department, North Central EMS, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Interstate Towing and Wilcox Towing. The crash is still under investigation.
