Trump wants to become president to stay out of prison

Growing up in a conservative Catholic family, voting Republican was never a question. For most of my life, I supported the Republican Party, believing that its policies aligned with my views on limited government and personal responsibility. However, the Republican Party of Wisconsin, which I once proudly helped lead, has become just that completely unrecognizable in recent years.

I started my journey with the Republican Party of Wisconsin, volunteering tirelessly on campaigns. I quickly rose through the ranks, serving as vice chairman and eventually chairman of the Brown County Republicans from 2013 to 2015. Brown County Board of Supervisors as a fiscal conservative, deeply committed to improving my community in northeastern Wisconsin.

But the rise of Donald Trump in 2016 brought out the worst in the Republican Party, with his divisive rhetoric and disregard for democratic norms. Each day of Trump’s presidency seemed to reach a new low, ending with his refusal to accept the 2020 election results and encouraging his supporters to attack the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump’s election denial and embrace of fringe conspiracy theories are incredibly disturbing. He consistently associates with QAnon believers and racist neo-Nazis. He has called for the punishment of his political opponents. And he promised to be a dictator on day one, even calling for an end to the Constitution.

This behavior is not only wrong, it is downright dangerous.

Republicans continue to cover up Trump’s bad behavior

And while this has always been in Trump’s playbook, Republicans continue to cover up his behavior, which is deeply unbecoming of a president and a threat to our democracy. We saw this with Trump’s running mate JD Vance, who said on January 6 that he was willing to do what Mike Pence was not, even if it means breaking the law. Some people who call themselves Republicans will do anything for Donald Trump – no matter the damage to the American people.

In 2024, the contrast between Republicans and Democrats could not be greater. President Joe Biden, recognizing the need to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, willingly gave up power in a decision that demonstrated his patriotism and love for his country. Meanwhile, Trump desperately tries to cling to power for personal gain, knowing that winning the presidency is the only way he can stay out of prison.

Harris is the only candidate in this election with a vision of the future – a vision that upholds democracy, equality and justice for all. Trump only cares about himself, obsessed with revenge and retaliation against his political enemies.

Wisconsinites are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan politics

So let me say this as a lifelong conservative: If you find yourself uncomfortable voting for Trump, lean into that feeling and don’t vote for him. The stakes have never been higher.

Wisconsin must reject Trump’s dangerous path and elect Harris, who will fight for all Americans — not just those who voted for her.

I’ve spoken to so many Wisconsinites who are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan politics and who believe in a better future. Now more than ever, we must rally behind candidates who believe in democracy and the rule of law. The choice is clear: Harris provides the leadership we need and will move our country forward. Let’s ensure that our voices are heard this November and that democracy is preserved for generations to come.
