Furious driver appears to use rented Cybertruck as battering ram to attack package thief

Furious driver appears to use rented Cybertruck as battering ram to attack package thief

“Two wrongs don’t make a right, but two idiots certainly make YouTube right.”

A pirate sandwich

A vigilante who rented a neon green Cybertruck through the car-sharing app Turo appears to have meted out justice hands by chasing a porch pirate, forcing him off the road and ramming him into a nearby tree.

Images of the bizarre event shared by the owner of the Cybertruck Stefan Phelps on Facebookshows the brutalist pickup speeding up after seeing a person running towards his car with what appears to be a package in his hands.

Seconds later, the Cybertruck overtakes the black sedan of the accused porch pirate, preventing it from following a left turn in the road and forcing it to plow into a nearby tree. The Cybertruck then crashes into the back of the porch pirate’s vehicle – or makes a “sandwich with the burglar’s car and a tree,” as Phelps put it.

A separate angle, captured by what appears to be the Cybertruck renter’s smart doorbell, shows the accused thief running towards their car. A few seconds later you see the green Cybertruck whizzing by in the distance. The clip ends with an ominous crunching sound as the black car plows into the tree.

“I’m about to find out how good T(uro)’s insurance is…” Phelps wrote in his message. “I hope everything will turn out well, but just with one car.”

Battering ram

It is still unclear what exactly was in the stolen package that would justify a reckless pursuit and destruction of private property.

“Apparently their neighborhood had been having burglary problems all week,” Phelps wrote in a post continued comment.

Phelps also revealed that “this was an $800 rental fee from Friday to Monday.”

Vigilante justice aside, Phelps – and most likely the driver of his Cybertruck – will have a mountain of paperwork ahead of them. It is unclear whether insurance will ultimately reimburse the damage.

Worse still, Tesla’s brutalist pickup has already built a reputation virtually impossible to repair. Unless the automaker decides to give Phelps an entirely new vehicle, the truck likely won’t be drivable for quite some time.

Furthermore, it could be argued that the Cybertruck driver endangered the alleged thief’s life, which could greatly complicate matters.

Meanwhile, users on the Cybertruck Owners Forum watched the images in horror – and at least somewhat amused.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right, but two idiots sure make YouTube right,” said one user wrote.
