Ten devotees sustain injuries at Aniruddhacharya Maharaj’s ashram after pot of hot khichdi spilled on them – India TV

In a tragic incident, at least ten women devotees from West Bengal suffered burns while waiting in line for a prasad outside Vrindavan’s famous Gauri Gopal Ashram. According to the information released, the incident took place on Friday (November 1) when the group of women devotees were waiting outside the ashram for the khichdi prasad to be served to them. However, the person responsible for serving the prasad slipped and the hot food splashed on the women standing nearby.

The officials said while two of the women were in critical condition and referred to a hospital in Agra, the other eight were discharged with minor injuries after first aid treatment.

About the incident

Talking about the details of the incident, District Hospital Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Vandana Agrawal said the ten women were part of a dedicated group traveling to Vrindavan.

“On Friday morning, when they all reached the Gauri Gopal Ashram, located in Parikrama Marg Sant Colony, the khichdi prasad was distributed outside. The devotees were queuing up to receive the Prasad. But as they stood, someone in charge of the serving it accidentally caused the utensil to slip, and so after the hot food splashed on the women standing nearby, said Dr. Agrawal.

“The incident caused panic among the devotees and the 10 injured women were rushed to the hospital,” she added.

Two women were seriously injured

According to hospital authorities, out of the total 10 admitted patients, two suffered serious injuries and were immediately referred to SN Medical College, Agra. While the rest were only discharged after the first treatment.

Further speaking about the incident, Aniruddhacharya Maharaj, the founder of Gauri Gopal Ashram, said that the prasad is distributed to a large number of devotees on a daily basis. “Friday’s incident took place when an ashram employee wearing the Khichdi slipped,” he added.
