Florida vs. Georgia is personal for Gators’ Jack Pyburn

Both the Florida Gators And Georgian bulldogs boast players from Jacksonville, raising the stakes in this long-standing rivalry.

This game means the world to both teams. For Georgia, avoiding a second loss certainly saves their playoff hopes. Meanwhile, Florida moves one step closer to securing bowl eligibility.

Jack Pyburn

After missing most of 2023, Pyburn not only returned to the field, but he has a special spot this week. A native of Jacksonville, Pyburn played at The Bolles School before committing to play football for the Gators. During the media availability, the junior shared his affinity for this particular game and what he hopes will happen.

“I can tell you it means everything,” Pyburn said. “Since I grew up, there isn’t a Georgia/Florida game that I can’t remember not going to. I’ve been to every game since I remember what Florida/Georgia is. Growing up in that environment and really knowing how this game is; it makes or breaks some people’s year, you know, it’s a year of trash talk on both sides of the ball, it’s similar to the Florida State rivalry to a certain extent to a lot of Georgia fans in North Florida. .There are a lot of Florida fans. It’s a heated rivalry that is really special.

Familiar face

So does Pyburn, Georgia’s starting quarterback Carson Beck calls the city of Jacksonville home. Pyburn hopes to make Beck’s return to the field as unpleasant as possible for him. He describes his memories of Beck and what Florida must do to stop the Georgia signal caller.

“I remember watching his state championship team,” Pyburn said. “I knew a lot of people who played against him. He was obviously a great player then. He’s still a great player now. I respect his play and I’m looking forward to playing against him. Every great quarterback you have to unseat him.” and making sure they’re under duress and getting hits on the quarterback.
