Thatcham man and two teenagers arrested after police attack

The 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, both from Thatcham, were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A 15-year-old girl, also from Thatcham, was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order and criminal damage.

Both girls have been released on bail and the man remains in police custody.

Police said the attacks occurred after two local police officers were stopped by a member of the public who reported his moped had been pushed over and damaged.

Officers arrested a teenager on suspicion of criminal damage, but the teenager “became a nuisance”, the force said.

“Another male became involved and an altercation ensued,” the report said, adding that the teenager had since been “released from custody in relation to the criminal damage incident”.

Det Insp Bill Sykes said: “This incident took place outside a coffee shop and we are aware that members of the public witnessed this incident.”

He urged anyone with information to contact police.
