Vicksburg man arrested, charged with aggravated assault

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WLBT) – A man is in custody and a woman is recovering from injuries following a serious assault in Vicksburg.

A news release states that Merit Health River Region reported a man to the emergency room with a stab wound to his upper torso shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.

According to the news release, a few minutes later, Vicksburg police officers were dispatched to the area of the Churchill Drive and Indiana Avenue intersection because a female assault victim was lying in the street.

She was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment. Her condition is currently stable.

After investigation, officers determined that the man and woman were involved in a domestic violence incident.

Daron Evans, 28, was taken into custody after being released from the emergency room.

He is charged with aggravated domestic violence assault. He is being held without bond until his first appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
