Viking RCMP on scene of truck on fire on Highway 619

Viking RCMP are on the scene of a serious car crash involving a semi-truck transporting crude oil.

In a news release sent at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, police said the truck was traveling on Highway 619 when it struck the soft shoulder of the road, fell into a ditch and burst into flames.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved.

Highway 619 was expected to be closed for several hours. Police asked the public to avoid the area at that time.

Viking is located approximately 125 kilometers southeast of Edmonton.
