Taylor Swift turned NFL into an ‘afterthought,’ says Matthew Stafford’s wife

Kelly Stafford, the outspoken wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, says she is “jealous” of the attention pop star Taylor Swift received from the N.F.Leven if it turned the players themselves into an ‘afterthought’.

In one recent episode from her podcast “The Morning After,” Stafford opened up about a statement she made prior to the start of 2024 N.F.L season when she noted that she “didn’t want to see another four months of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce coverage.”

Stafford met the future Pro Bowl player while playing college football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Matthew Stafford was selected first overall by the Detroit Lions in 2009 N.F.L Preliminary version. He ranks in the top 12 all-time in pass attempts, completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. He currently ranks fourth all-time in passing yards per game and holds the record for being the fastest player in the game N.F.L history to reach 40,000 career transition yards.

Despite this, it appears that the Super Bowl LVI champion’s wife admits that this stemmed from her jealousy over the “Bad Blood” singer’s media attention. She said, “I will say I got a little tired of the Chiefs’ reporting on it, actually the N.F.L‘s coverage of this budding relationship last year.”

Stafford continued, “I was a little jealous of the fact that (Swift and Kelce) were getting all this attention, and suddenly the football game was the afterthought. So yeah, maybe I let jealousy get the better of me.”

Swift and Kelce became a major focus in the N.F.L during the 2023 season. Swift, a globally known pop star, appeared at Chiefs games to support Kelce, and their relationship led to extensive media attention. Swift’s presence attracted her huge fan base, but it also upset some sports fans who felt the focus on the singer detracted from the game itself.

It seems Stafford was one of them. She continued to focus on Swift, claiming that her own admitted jealousy stemmed from feeling like players were not being paid attention. She said: “I thought, ‘Why did I feel like that?’ And it was, I was feeling jealous of the fact that she suddenly became the main show N.F.L football… or their relationship. And I see my husband trying his best and I see all these guys who play for the league trying their best and suddenly they’re an afterthought. So that’s where that kind of came from.”

It’s worth noting that Stafford himself is one of the most prominent N.F.L women in the public eye and tends to make statements on her podcasts or an interview that draw more attention to herself.

For example, she recently opined that Cleveland Browns fans who cheered quarterback Deshaun Watson’s injury should be banned. N.F.L “I have to try to find every fan who cheered and ban them for life. My blood is boiling.”

Even stranger (given the circumstances), the Staffords made headlines this Halloween by dressing up as Swift and Kelce.

Stafford will probably have another episode of her podcast about Swift soon, if only to explain the costume.
