Two downtown Orlando shooting victims identified by police

Two people killed in downtown Orlando after a Halloween night shooting were identified Saturday by Orlando police.

The two victims were identified as 25-year-old Tyreek Hill and 19-year-old Timothy Schmidt Jr.

Eight other victims, ranging in age from 18 to 39, were injured after the shooting.

Officials quickly arrested 17-year-old Jalen Edgar in connection with the shooting on site. His mother appeared before him for the first time in juvenile court Saturday morning.

Edgar was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted first-degree murder – counts for each person killed and each person injured.

The shooting started at 1:07 a.m. Friday near Orange Avenue and Central Blvd., sending people running and screaming through downtown Orlando.

Minutes later, the alleged suspect opened fire near Orange Avenue and Washington Street, just steps from a group of Orlando police officers and people walking downtown. Within moments, the suspected suspect is tackled to the ground and arrested.

Surveillance video and body camera video show at what point the suspected suspect fires his weapon, and at what point he is tackled by the authorities.

The shooting is the second mass shooting in downtown Orlando since 2022.
