Charges filed in connection with the attack of a woman in a Kansas City park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One man has been charged with the robbery and assault of a woman who had tried to enjoy her lunch in a Kansas City park last summer.

Jackson County, Missouri, District Court documents filed on Wednesday, October 30 show that Curtis A. Long, 51, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection with the attack on a woman in her car.

The Kansas City, Missouri, police said that on June 26, law enforcement officers were called to a city park with reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, they found a woman who reported that she had been eating in her car when Long approached and got into the passenger seat.

Investigators noted that the woman did not know Long and when he began lighting a substance in a glass pipe, she told him to get out of the vehicle. In response, Long allegedly tried to strangle the woman before telling her to take off her clothes. When she screamed, Long ran from the vehicle, but not before grabbing her phone and keys.

Law enforcement officials indicated Long threw the woman’s keys before running out of the park. Witnesses in the area were able to help the woman and call 911. DNA evidence found in the woman’s car also pointed to Long as the attacker.

As of Saturday, November 2, Long is behind bars in Jackson County, Missouri, on charges of robbery and first-degree assault with no bond set. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m., with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 27 at noon. No further information has been released.
