Teenage pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in north Queensland

A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old in north Queensland on Saturday evening.

Queensland Police are investigating the incident in Homebush, south-west of Mackay.

It is alleged a white utility driver was driving dangerously just before 10pm before a second vehicle, a red Mazda 3, struck the 17-year-old girl who was in the roadway.

Police said the incident sparked a collision involving several people before the car’s passenger was allegedly attacked.

“The Mazda continued for a short distance before stopping. It is alleged several people in the area approached the vehicle and assaulted a 53-year-old male passenger,” police said.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and dispersed the group.

The 17-year-old Glenella girl was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 53-year-old Sarina man was also transported to hospital for treatment.

The other occupants of the Mazda, the 16-year-old female driver, a 12-year-old male passenger and a 56-year-old female passenger, were uninjured.

The police are investigating the circumstances.

Anyone with dashcam footage is asked to come forward.
