Bay College is hosting a family weekend to encourage student athletes

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – Bay College students and their families spent the weekend together on campus.

The college hosted a family weekend event and invited families to eat burgers and brats at a tailgate party on Saturday.

Matt Johnson, director of Bay College Athletics, said the event aligns with the start of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. He says it’s a chance for busy athletes to spend time with their families.

“We felt it was important to get as many family members and loved ones as possible to watch us and set the tone for the rest of the season,” Johnson said.

Johnson says student athletes don’t have much time to go home on the weekends because of the sports schedule. So it’s great to make time for them and their families on campus.

He says the event is also an opportunity for other families to meet.
