MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Several investigations are underway after a violent week here in Mobile County.

Investigators say officers attempted to serve arrest warrants for Juan Puente Junior on child pornography charges. That’s what authorities say Puente led officers on a chase that ended in a standoff after shooting at officers and barricading himself in his garage.

Sheriff Burch says Puente continued to fire at law enforcement officers from his garage before he was shot.

“They’re trying to get these types of people off the streets,” said Sheriff Burch. “This person chose a different route than going to prison.”

It all happened in the parking lot of a shopping center on Celeste Road. The Saraland Library was caught in the line of fire, but fortunately no one else was injured.

“I looked forward and saw two people with guns, so I told everyone to sit down and move to the back. And then the glass broke and someone was trapped in a study, but I told her to stay down. I didn’t expect this at all in Saraland,” said Matt Cobb, Saraland library manager.

The identity and condition of the suspect remains unknown this evening. FOX10 News has reached out to the US Marshall’s Office, ALEA and the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, but we have not heard back.

Then, Thursday evening, Mobile police said they found it a 15-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound on the side of the road on Arcturus Lane. As of Saturday evening, there is still no suspect in custody.
