Columbus police officer dies in off-duty crash

A Columbus police officer was killed in an off-duty crash that occurred on Saturday, according to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 9 President Brian Steel.

“It is with great sadness that the Fraternal Order of Police Capital Lodge No. 9 announces the passing of one of our esteemed members in an off-duty incident,” Steel said in a statement. “Tonight we mourn the loss of a dedicated officer and a valued friend, colleague and public servant whose absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him and by the community he faithfully served.”

Steel added, “This officer, whose life was dedicated to upholding the safety and well-being of others, leaves behind a loving family and countless colleagues who will remember him for his dedication, integrity and devotion to duty. His death is a profound event. loss to our Lodge, to the Columbus Police family and to the residents whose lives he tried to protect every day.

Steel asked that the privacy of the officer’s family be respected, saying: “Our hearts and condolences are with them, and we stand ready to provide any support they may need. We will provide further details on memorial arrangements as soon as they become available.”

The FOP has not released the identity of the officer at this time.
